Nightblade Soft Tank
[*This build is specific for Alt Tanking; Regular Dailies, Solo World Bosses, Solo Public Dungeons, Farming, or Questing; NOT main tanking, which is more specific to Vet Dungeons or Trials.*]
I have been putting this build through the ropes and swapping out different abilities and combining to see the effects. So far this looks like the best that I have come up with at this point. There are some abilities that can be swapped out for alternate means. I will give examples below.
Base Build
One key factor of the Soft Tank is that you need enough of both Health and Stamina. Stamina will be the major factor for the Soft Tank as he does a lot of DoT (Damage over Time). This gives me the opportunity for the abilities to take effect while I utilize Blocking, Shield Slam for survivability and Siphon to keep my HP up during battle. Stamina is needed for most of these abilities, which is why Stamina is a key factor in this build. You want have a fair amount of Health and Stamina, but I would say lean more toward Stamina since this is your bread winner for getting enemies down quick.
As far as Armor, I have been using a mix of Heavy and Medium Armor. Why? Heavy for the defense and Medium for the Stamina. Too much Heavy Armor and your character will run through your Stamina faster than an asian in a rice bowl. I have been setting my Helmet, Chest, Legs, and Feet with Heavy Armor and Shoulders, Waist, and Hands with Medium Armor. Here is an example of my character stats. (Also the Boon's 'The Lady or 'The Lord' will help improve your characters defense. You can play around and adjust this stat for optimal enhancement for your character if you see a better option that fits your need.)
Abilities
The abilities utilize two trees; One Hand and Shield and Siphoning. Let's go over some of those abilities below.
Veil of Blades
Lets start out with the Ultimate. This is the major DoT dealer for the tank. Not only does it reduce damage to you and other party members by 30%, it deals 558 Magic Damage every half second for 13.8 seconds, which equates to 15,400 points of damage to each enemy that resides in the circle. Use this ability every chance you get, it's a fucking beast of an Ultimate for a Nightblade Tank. (Since this ability cost 200 Ultimate, there are other abilities that are listed below to help speed up this Ultimate's refresh rate.)
Ransack
This ability is straightforward, it is utilized for three factors; Taunting, reducing enemies armor value, and increasing your own armor value. The effect lasts 12 seconds but refreshes your armor value every time you utilize the ability on an enemy. ( This can be swapped out for Inner Fire if you need an AoE Taunt for Dailies )
Heroic Slash
This ability is a damage reducer and an Ultimate booster. Smack a few different enemies with this to get your Ultimate build quicker. The lesser effect of damage reduction by 15% will help your survivability. (When dealing with Mages or any type of Magic caster, this ability can be swapped out with Defensive Posture to reflect the casters spells back to them. )
Swallow Soul
This is an ability i utilize in between hits and ability activations, it's a key factor to keep you ALIVE. Since your not 100% Heavy Armor you need to have health regeneration. That's where this ability comes in handy. It is one of the key abilities I utilize when questing with this build. Healing for 26% of the damage taken every 2 seconds helps in the battle of survival.
Cripple
This is a great intermittent ability to utilize when you need to get move around with the quickness. It slows enemies down and gives you a 40% speed boost, while dealing DoT damage. This can be utilized with Veil of Blades to add DoT effect to the enemy.
Power Bash
Stun the enemy, and give me time to rest?? Yeah, I'll take that! This does damage, small damage compared to some of the other prior abilities but it's usage is in its stun and disorient. Disorient allows you to deal heavy damage to the enemy; if using Heavy Attack, this generates stamina (which you do need) and knocks the enemy down for a damage booster.
Below is a video I made of the Nightblade Soft Tank which gives an example of how the Tank can be utilized in combat.
As I play around with this build I will update this post in the future as I see fit for future updates and new discoveries. Happy questing and enjoy. Also feel free to add comments and critiques of the build of you decide to re-spec your character to give it a try.
